A. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- Identify the structure and language features of a recount text.
- Understand a recount text about a party.
- Write a simple recount text about their own party experience.
B. LESSON STRUCTURE
1. OPENING (10 Minutes)
- Aperception:
- Show pictures of a birthday party and a farewell party.
- Ask students: Have you ever attended a party? What kind of party was it?
- Motivation:
- Explain that today, they will learn about recount text, which tells about past experiences, specifically about a party.
2. MAIN ACTIVITIES (60 Minutes)
A. Introduction to the Material (15 Minutes)
- Explain the definition of recount text:
A recount text is a text that tells about past experiences in chronological order. - Structure of recount text:
- Orientation (who, when, where)
- Events (a series of activities)
- Reorientation (the writer’s feelings or conclusion)
- Language features:
- Uses past tense (went, had, was, were, etc.).
- Uses time connectors (then, after that, finally).
B. Text Example (15 Minutes)
Provide a simple text example:
"My Best Friend’s Birthday Party"
Last Saturday, I went to my best friend's birthday party. It was held at her house. The decorations were beautiful, and there were many balloons.
First, we played some fun games. Then, we ate delicious food and sang a birthday song. After that, she cut the birthday cake and gave us each a piece. Finally, we took pictures and went home happily.
It was an amazing party!
(Translate the text together with the students to understand the meaning.)
C. Comprehension Exercise (15 Minutes)
- Students read the text and answer these questions:
- When did the party happen?
- Where was the party held?
- What activities did they do?
- How did the writer feel about the party?
D. Writing Activity (15 Minutes)
- Students write a short recount text (5-7 sentences) about a party they have attended, using this guide:
- Orientation: Who, when, where?
- Events: What happened?
- Reorientation: How did you feel?
3. CLOSING (10 Minutes)
- Reflection:
- Ask: What have you learned today?
- Students recall the characteristics of recount text.
- Evaluation:
- Some students read their texts aloud.
- Encouragement:
- Praise students and encourage them to keep practicing writing in English.
